Renewable Energy Will Vastly Spread The Wealth

September 27, 2011

We read about mining jobs being replaced by robot trucks and better conveyor belts. This is because mining jobs are dirty, remote, and incredibly highly paid. The industry is characterized as “a few highly paid workers” and a vast investment in plant.

As we move to a greater share of renewable energy over the next 20 years we will see a shift in wealth, as the incomes spread geographically and are divided amongst many more workers.

There are more jobs per GigaWatt of power generated. Renewable energy’s main input is labour, not fuel.

Renewable jobs are closer to home. This means each job pays less money but is less disruptive to the lives of the workers. This also taps a much greater labour force.

But most importantly, the wealth is spread out, right across the country. The two step economy problem is solved.
